What Is A Legislative District?
by Karen Willard
The 31st Legislative District, which elects two members
of the house and one senator to Olympia, sits in both King and Pierce
Counties. It includes parts of Auburn, and Edgewood, all of Sumner,
Lake Tapps, Bonney Lake, South Prairie, Wilkeson, Buckley, and
Enumclaw. See the map of the 31st
The state legislative district forms the lowest tier of
the overall Democratic Party organization. We do get some direction and
support from the higher levels, namely the Pierce county and King
county Democratic Central Committees (PCDCC & KCDCC), the state
Democratic party (WSDCC) and the national Democratic party (DNC), but
whatever party outreach/action needs to happen at the local level,
that's generally up to us.
Membership in the 31st organization is open to anyone
who considers him/herself a Democrat and has an interest in the
district, and includes all the elected or appointed Democratic precinct
committee officers of the 31st Legislative District. What's a Precinct Committee
Officer?
