Here is video of a presentation from our August general meeting on the East Pierce Fire and Rescue Bond that will be on ballots in November! We endorsed this bond at our August 22 meeting.
“For the first time in our history, the department has put out a bond to replace and rebuild a number of fire stations. This is a phase-1 20 year project. The bond is aimed at rebuilding or replacing stations, emergency vehicles, and other equipment. The bond asks for 80 million dollars over 20 years, based on multiple reviews done by multiple committees, which was then reviewed with a citizens’ advisory committee.
The infrastructure we have is crumbling, and we can’t even fit some of the new fire engines that have been purchased in more recent years into certain stations because those stations were built as long as 70 years ago, and things have changed in 70 years!
Demand for our service is climbing rapidly: between now and 2040 it is expected our 911 calls will double, going from 11,00 to 21,000+. It is projected that our population will go from 90,000 to 160,000, and without this infrasture we’re not going to be able to provide the service that you deserve and need.”
