A message from the Chair re: 2021 Reorganization

Dear Fellow Democrat,

I’m writing to urge you to participate in the upcoming reorganization of the 31st Legislative District Democrats. Please join us on Saturday, January 9, 11:00am, via ZOOM (Register here). To help the meeting go smoothly and efficiently, we are asking folks to renew their membership by paying dues for 2021 no later than January 2, 2021.

Several key leadership positions are open this year as current officers have indicated that they do not intend to run for re-election. You do not have to be a PCO or a member to become an officer of our organization, so this is your opportunity to participate, to run for a leadership position, and to help us set the local agenda for next year, the 2022 mid-term election and beyond.

Why is this work important? In 2020 we elected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House, and sent Dr. Kim Schrier back to D.C. for a second term. While our local candidates for the 31st LD will not be going to Olympia, they both earned more votes than we have seen for local Democrats in many a year, more than enough to be competitive in a year with lower turnout. Our work in the coming years is to make sure that those voters turn out again and again and cast their ballots for local progressive candidates at all levels, including (perhaps especially) school boards and city councils.

How can you help? One of the ways that you can support our work to elect qualified, competitive candidates is to become a member of the 31st Legislative District Democrats. It’s easy! You can become a member online here. Dues-paying members have voting privileges at our general meetings (held every 4th Wednesday via Zoom) for the 2021 calendar year, and the money collected goes toward spreading Democratic values in our area through education, organization, and outreach, and supporting qualified Democrats running for local office.

I look forward to seeing you in 2021 and to hearing your ideas about how we can achieve Democratic victories and send representatives to Olympia who will pass laws that reflect our shared values.

Brian Gunn, Chair
31st Legislative District Democrats
