This month we have invited Natalie Simmons, Part-Time Faculty President for AFT Seattle, Local 1789, to speak with us. We’re especially interested to hear about legislation passed this last legislative session in Olympia and also about legislative goals for the next session.
Natalie will talk about the gains that her local realized after a walk out action taken during the funding biennium of the State Legislature last year. In speaking to this, she will briefly touch on the hard work that educators across our great state engage in on a daily basis and the overwhelming reliance of our two year colleges upon part-time, contingent, adjunct faculty to meet the educational needs of our populace.
Natalie Simmons is an Adjunct Math Instructor currently teaching at South Seattle College and Green River College in the Puget Sound region in Washington State. She has been teaching at SSC for 18 years and at GRC for the last 2.5 years. She is married to a wonderful man, Stephen, and is the mother of three beautiful daughters. She also serves as the Part-Time Faculty President for AFT Seattle, Local 1789 and is in the beginning of her second term in that role.
Natalie has been a resident of the Pacific Northwest for the majority of her life and thoroughly enjoys the natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. Natalie has a passion for math and works to empower students to find their strengths within their own inherent math abilities and builds upon these to help students become confident problem solvers who enjoy math.
