Minutes for 31st District Democrats Special Membership Meeting on 10-7-26
We had a quorum of members.
Sarah Edwards led the meeting. She explained that US House Representative Adam Smith requested our endorsement. Our agenda is to consider this request for endorsement.
Nick Biermann moved and Tamara Stramel seconded the motion to approve the agenda. All members present agreed.
Mary Sullivan moved and Kirby Pollard seconded the motion to endorse Adam Smith.
Attendees made statements for and against this motion. Some comments for: He is the current incumbent and the only Democrat running for this seat. He is the senior Democrat on the Armed Services Committee. Some comments against: There is concern about Adam’s unwavering support of Israel especially in the area of military alliance. In addition, there is concern that he has not accepted the United Nations investigation results that there has been genocide of Gazans by Israel.
It was mentioned that making a resolution about these concerns might be appropriate.
Sarah will unofficially relay concerns about Adam’s support of Israel to his team.
Members present voted on the motion to endorse Adam Smith. 79% voted yes and 21% voted no. The motion passed.
Nick Biermann moved and Billy Duke seconded to adjourn the meeting. All present members agreed. Meeting was adjourned.
